Stocks finish higher as optimism mounts over potential U.S.-China trade deal

“This update corrects the ticker for the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the percentage for the S&P 500 index” writes Markets Reporter for The S&P 500 index SPX, +0.82% climbed 22.41 points, or 0.8%, to 2,760.17, while the Nasdaq Composite Index COMP, +0.79% gained 57.45 points, or 0.8%, to 7,330.54.Both the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq logged their best weekly performance since December 2011 while the blue-chip index posted its strongest week since November 2016.The agreement still needs to be approved by the three countries legislatures before the deal can take effect.
