Bronx man accused of swinging metal pipe at residents sent to jail

“A mentally-ill Bronx man charged with swinging a pipe at two Bronx residents in separate attacks this month was jailed early Sunday in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or a $15,000 bail bond” reports nypost.com. The lawyer for Jimenez, Anthony Graniere, had argued that bail be set in the amount of a $10,000 bond because his client suffers from mental illness, yet has no prior criminal record. “Mr. Jimenez does suffer from some form of mental illness and at 24-years-old, it’s a situation that is amazing … he doesn’t have a criminal record right now despite some of the mental disabilities that he has been working on,” the lawyer argued. “I think incarceration in this situation for bail purposes is not going to do anybody any good.” The mother and sister of Jimenez were in the courtroom; neither they nor the lawyer would speak to a reporter after the arraignment.
